Life in the federal state of Salzburg
The federal state of Salzburg is divided into 5 “Gaue” (regions).
The Flachgau with the state capital, Tennengau, Pongau Pinzgau and Lungau. From the capital it is a short journey to the summer and winter sport resorts and an expansive rambling and cycling paradise.
Each region has its own special characteristic:
- The distinctive feature of the Flachgau region is its lively urban scene.
- The Tennengau region, the “Heart of Salzburg”, is distinguished by the mountain world and the gastronomic delights of the house of Döllerer in Golling and the Obauer family in Werfen.
- The Pongau and Pinzgau regions are above all home to the winter sports areas, but also areas noted for hiking and wellness.
- The Lungau region, nestling between the Radstädter Tauern range and the Nockberge mountains in Carinthia, is the most south-easterly region of Salzburg and is famous for its wonderful hiking and cycling routes.
Sophisticated gastronomy and hotels with a corresponding ambience and also small fine restaurants and accommodation can be found in all regions.
