The new gardening season
The days are finally getting longer again, the spring sun is shining and with the first warm temperatures your garden is awakening from its winter sleep. It’s time to get your green lawn fit again and prepare for the sunny side of the year in your home before summer moves into the country. An existing or newly planted garden needs regular care to shine in all its glory. We at Bamberger Immobilien would be happy to take you for a spin through your green oasis, which may still be a little sleepy, and welcome you into the new season together with garden designer Oliver Neundlinger. Because, when we build a home out of dreams for you, your green sanctuary will certainly play the main role for a successful summer, for many cosy hours with family and friends directly in front of your own patio door.
So if you want to enjoy the warm days, now is the time to pick up your freshly sharpened pruning shears and get going: There is a lot to do after such a long, cold winter!
After the last frosty nights are over, the flower beds and the green grass have been cleared of the last leaves, weeds and leftovers from the winter, it is finally time to dig, sow and fertilise again.
After the lawn has kissed itself awake again in spring, it is mown for the first time. After the first grass cut, you should mow regularly again to get your own green in perfect shape. The soil is being drained by the increasingly warmer temperatures and the first seeds and herbs can be planted out for the upcoming barbecue season. For those who want to enjoy fruit from their own garden and space permits, now is the best time to plant apple or cherry trees. For a fragrant, native butterfly meadow, the first summer flowers and vegetable seedlings can be sown and planted now, but it is still important to protect them from frosty nights. With some plants you should wait until the middle of May, until the Ice Saints are over. Some tender plants do not tolerate frost. After the cold and the last crazy snowfall that may still be coming, the raised bed is also calling for work.
At the beginning, you should fill it up with fresh soil.
Now oleander and co can also enjoy the freedom they have regained. After a long time in darkness, the beautiful colourful potted plants can finally be repotted in the fresh air.
For trees, shrubs and hedges, the new spring pruning is due before they sprout their leaves. When pruning and trimming, please keep an eye out for nests in the trees, as birds hatch their eggs there from March to October. The more birdsong, the more beautiful the balmy summer evenings. The path to the garden, the fence around your home and the terrace are also part of the garden picture. Weeds and moss need to be scraped out of the joints of the path and cleaned. All this should be on your “To Do” list.
If you have taken care of the most important things in spring, there won’t be al that much gardening left to do in summer. It is important to consider the water needs of the individual plants. And that is sometimes a real challenge on warm days and with summer coming up. Especially if you are travelling and no one can take care of your plants. Our tip: If you would like some support, you are certainly in good hands with Oliver Neundlinger and his son Julian. They have made their passion their profession and are happy to support you with their many years of experience or take up ideas to perfect your garden.
We, as your real estate experts, wish you a good start into the new gardening season!
